Pairing: David Archuleta/Allison Iraheta
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Sequel to Almost Four YearsSo Hard To Forget & No One Else. Lyrics are "I Have and I Always Will" by Dave Barnes.

The promised tomorrow came and went.

It turned into the next day and the day after that. Days became weeks. After a messy, public break-up with the drummer, Allison moved all her things into David's apartment. And as weeks became months, it was no longer David's apartment, it was once again their apartment - the way it had been years ago.

As Allison spit out the last of her toothpaste, she thought about how much had changed since the first time she'd moved in - her reluctance then versus her unquestioned eagerness now.

She clicked off the bathroom light and re-entered the bedroom. David was already in bed, under the covers, holding the book he'd started a few nights ago. She walked around the bed and joined him with a huge yawn. Allison thumbed through a fashion magazine in silence.

David looked up from his book. "Allie?"

"Mmhm?" she replied, their eyes meeting. David blinked a few times, then, without a word, rummaged through the side table drawer. She scrunched up her face into a puzzled expression. "What are you doing?" She poked her head up and around, trying all different angles to see what he was up to.

When David turned back to her, he was holding a small, black, felt box. He opened it and the tiny hinge let out a squeak. Inside was the most beautiful diamond ring Allison had ever laid eyes on. She gasped. Though she'd never been the kind of girl who got all teary-eyed over romantic movies or public displays of affection, she couldn't help it. David had always been the exception.

"Will you marry me?"

She laughed at the timing. Here they were all tucked into bed, in their pajamas and her without a stitch of makeup on. Normally such questions were reserved for dinners at expensive restaurants or high atop a mountain somewhere overlooking a beautiful vista. But no, not them. Not David. David would choose somewhere as mundane as the bedroom to ask such an important question. Though unconventional, to Allison it was perfect.

"Do you even have to ask?" she blurted out, covering her face as if to hide herself from the embarrassing amount of excitement plastered on her face.

"I figured I'd better. The last time it didn't work out so well," he replied. "Please say yes. I've only got so much courage. I don't know if I could take another no."

She threw her arms around him, knocking the ring box onto the bed. "Yes, David. Yes. Of course I will." She rested her head on his shoulder a moment, just enjoying their closeness.

David drew back quicker than she expected, apparently unable to wait to seal the deal. She couldn't help but notice his own grin as he slid the ring onto her finger. "God, Allie, you don't know how long I've wanted to hear you say that."

She pressed her forehead to his and touched his face gently. They were so close now that their eyelashes were nearly brushing. She couldn't really focus on him, but tried anyway. "I'm so, so sorry, David. I was a fucking idiot to let you go."

It was his turn to laugh. Even in a tender moment, she still cursed. He closed his eyes and kissed her. "You're forgiven," he whispered against her lips. "Just please don't leave me again."

"You know what I've been thinking?" she asked, pulling back. "We should have a party."

David looked flabbergasted. "What? I must be hearing things!" He covered his ear with his hand and took it away, then repeated the motion several times.

"Your hearing is fine," she replied, smacking him playfully. "A party. P-A-R-T-Y. We can invite everyone and then we can tell them the big news."  She held out her hand, admiring the glistening stone which now adorned her finger. "Arch, seriously. This thing is freaking gigantic." She pressed it to her chest, holding her left hand with her right. "I love it."

"I'm glad." David sighed a relieved sigh which turned into a yawn. "I don't wanna ruin the moment, but it's been a long day." Allison nodded and they each flipped off their bedside lamps, discarding their reading materials along the way.

"Tomorrow --- we have a party to plan," she declared into the darkness.

"And a wedding," he added, scooting close and wrapping his arm around her.

"And a wedding," she echoed.
---

Allison clinked a spoon against her glass. "Can I have your attention?"

A hush fell over the party. Everyone important was in attendance. The head of Jive records, Cook and some new girl, Adam, Kris and Katy just to name a few.

"First off, thank you all for coming. We're very glad to have you here," she began as Archie came to her side and wrapped his arm around her waist. "Second, David and I have an announcement to make." David took the ring from his pocket - where it had been hidden to keep the secret safe - and placed it back onto Allison's finger. "We're getting married!"

Allison lit up like a Christmas tree. Her eyes immediately darted to Kris and Adam's faces. They were both smiling proudly. Adam blew her a kiss which she grabbed in the air and pressed against her heart.

As soon as everyone went back to mingling and enjoying themselves, Adam cornered Allison at the counter with all the food. "Baby girl! Tell me you are not gonna settle down before me!?"

Allie just laughed and embraced him. "My children will probably settle down before you do."

Adam cocked an eyebrow. "Children? This is serious."

"No shit, Lambert! Marriage usually is. At least when you're not being an idiot about it."

"And you do try harder not to be an idiot than most people I know," Adam chuckled.

"An absolute, crazy fool? Yes. But, an idiot? No."

He grabbed both of her hands. "I'm really happy for you, Allie. For real. Love is a precious thing that doesn't come around all that often. You deserve this, and he better be good to you!"

"Thank you," she said, hugging him again. "He will be. He always has been. I was the one who was a jerk," she replied wistfully, glancing over at David who was talking with Cook and a girl who she could only assume was Cook's date.

She took a bite of the cheese cube she'd picked up. She shook her head and refocused on Adam. "But that's in the past. What about you? Are you seeing anyone?"

"Honey, don't stand around talking to me. There will be plenty of time for that on a day when you are flaunting your gigantic engagement ring! Go be with your man!" He smacked her on the butt.

She turned back. "But Adam," she whined in protest. It had been weeks since she'd talked to him. He widened his eyes and pointed straight ahead. Rushing back to him, she kissed him on the cheek before she reached around him to the counter top spread.

"Cheese cube for the road," she declared showing him the tiny orange square. "We'll talk soon."

---

A few weeks after the engagement party, Adam's phone vibrated in his pocket. He was in the middle of a rather boring meeting where mostly other people were talking - and not to him - so he pulled it out discretely to check who the text was from. It was from Allison.

Will you be my man of honor?

He sent a text back.

Nothing would make me happier.

---

David watched, captivated, as Allison walked down the aisle toward him. Though he'd imagined this moment many times in full Technicolor, she'd never looked as beautiful as she did right now. Her bright hair - done in beautiful curls - contrasted profoundly against the soft white gown and made her beaming features the center of attention. Even under her veil.

Cook elbowed him as discretely as possible. "Breathe. In and out," he reminded. It was solid advice. David exhaled a breath he hadn't recognized he had been holding and took in a new one.

Suddenly, she was in front of him. He took her from her father's steady arm. The preacher rambled on as David lifted her veil, finally seeing her unobscured. Allison pulled a funny face and David stifled a laugh. His hands grabbed at her waist and pulled her closer.

"Do you, David James Archuleta, take this woman to be your wife?"

David's attention was drawn back to the preacher at the mention of his name.

"I do."

"And do you, Allison Iraheta, take this man to be your husband?"

"I do."

David didn't care how lame or unmanly it was to feel how he felt in this moment. He was absolutely giddy. He had never cared for anyone the way he did Allison, and his heart swelled to hear her agree. He could feel her nearly vibrating with excitement as they waited the agonizing moment before the kiss that would conclude the ceremony.

"Then, by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Without a moment's hesitation, he kissed her with abandon. Perhaps far too passionately for such a public moment. When he pulled away, they were both gasping for breath. She looked up and smiled at him with those big, beautiful brown eyes.

"I love you, David," she whispered, pressing her forehead to his.

They drank in the moment, neither wanting to leave the simplicity of it. Real life loomed beyond this moment, threatening fights and misunderstandings. But David wasn't afraid. They'd fought before and once he'd almost lost the love of his life. Whatever they were about to face could be no worse than the agonizing time they'd spent apart.

They'd almost lost each other once. Neither would let that happen again.

"I love you, Allison. Always have. Always will," he whispered in return.

In your darkest hours
Will I love you still?
I have and I always will
